Chess and Telnet
Chess players have an advantage these days; the internet has opened a whole new variety of different avenues for avid players. Back then to play a game at any distance it involved mailing moves back and forth making it impossible to get a reply for days. Now with the use of e-mail it has sped things up giving more time for the player to sit back and play the game of chess in the same day. All over the world live chess can be enjoyed by all.
Via Telnet is one of the fastest ways to enjoy chess. A number of players can all log into a single remote class server while their computers act as a remote terminals. The server’s moves are then transmitted from the server to the other player. Most players prefer to use their own specialized software. The reason being is this software interprets from the computer its own data stream and on screen displays the players positions on a graphic interface allowing the chess player to make moves from his mouse instead of manually, thus giving the chess player more time to enjoy the game. In this day and age timing is a crucial in every ones hectic life.
There are so many different timed games available now. Timed games can be inter-grated into a time-keeping program in your software. This was never offered before to over-the-board players. The advantage to these timed controlled methods is to allow the avid player to keep up with the standard chess clocks.
Some of the popular time controls used in this strategic game are “2 12” this allowing the chess player 2 minutes to make their moves but costing them 12 seconds for each strategic move they make. The advantage to this is faster games. Another timed game is the standard “40 moves in two hours” or the popular “30 moves in 30minutes.” Timed control allows for each and every player whether old or new to the timers their choice of how long a game they wish to play.

Welcome to AboutChess, here you will find guides on how to become a better chess player, we have material from Beginner to Intermediate and Advance. We ask all the new Chess Players who are just beginning to start with the Beginner Section and then Move on to Intermediate and then Advance. We also ask the new players to go through each step one by one. When you start from Beginner make sure you go through each exercises at least 3 times before you move to the next level, we have Beginner section for Tactics, Strategy, Endgame and few other exercises.
We have annotated games which are mainly for Intermediates. Our advice for the beginners is to start with the basics and then move on to advance ones. We have made it fairly easy for beginners to get started. Soon we will be adding learning programs and tools to further enchance and speed up your learning experience.
If you have questions, comments or feedback please Contact Us through the contact form and we will get back to you at soonest possible.
It is our guarantee that if you go through all the exercises at least 3 times you will improve your game significantly. If you really want to become a good chess player you must always play with other human players it does not matter if you lose, the more you lose the better you get, none of us learnt it by heart, it took time and years of practice, thus give it some time and you will get better. We also advice the beginners to analyze their game and see why they couldn’t win a certain game. From our experience we have found out that most Beginners problem lie in the opening where they always make mistake. You must choose an opening and stick to it for at least 50 games to get an idea of different variations. It is also recommended to start with basic/easy opening variations such as Ruy Lopez instead of Gambits or Sicilian or other advance openings which require a good positional understanding of game, it is useless to make moves when you have no idea why you made that move and what significance that move has on the game.
Start with the easy ones build on it and then move to the harder ones.
If you are ready to dive into the exercises then please check the categories on the right hand side and start with the beginner section. We recommend you start with tactics before you do anything else.
We have articles on Chess as well, which you should read if you want to further enhance your learning experience and speed up the process.
Please read our view on the Game of Chess.
